What Is Your Favrouite Metal Band

i recently got into metal music i listen to things like metallica and
dissection (yes i listen to some degree of black metal despite how somber they
sound but that's beside the point) and a little twisted sister (does that count
as metal idk) what do you guys listen in terms of metal music?

Metal is an endlessly deep adventure - enjoy the journey! Usually around this
spooky time of year, I'll listen to Mercyful Fate and King Diamond; but
recently I've been getting more into black metal bands like Mayhem and
Darkthrone. Slayer will always reign supreme when it comes to thrash. I just
bought a ticket to see Iron Maiden next year and Megadeth and Anthrax are
opening!! so incresibly stoked for that show!

Agree with Plague almost word for word. HA, Merciful Fate and King Diamond,
bands I haven't thought of in a long time. (Life has been busy lately.)

My overall vote reluctantly goes to Metalica, for the volume of killer songs.
Agree to those who shouted out DIO! And I wholeheartedly agree!! But, like all
the other bands mentioned (Anthrax, MD, JP) just don't have as many KILLER
songs. Great songs sure, but not as many in a single band.

That's just my opinion and maybe because I didn't spend enough time with entire
albums from the above bands, whereas I wore out a few Metalica albums.

Metalica (Lars) really pisses me off sometimes though. I didn't care for the
Black album in particular but that's another conversation.

I go through phases, but I love Tarja-era Nightwish, Blind Guardian, Judas
Priest, Iron Maiden, and Amon Amarth are all excellent. My current listening
favorite is Sabaton. I lean towards more melodic stuff, not into super heavy
growly/screamo stuff

Updating Teos Settings

I think all of us would enjoy having Teos be a more competitive, interactive
and engaging experience. The early game is great. But as time goes on it has a
tendancy to become one sided or unbalanced in several ways. A good example is
how several ships seem to be fairly useless and never purchased.

But I don't think this bulletin board is a great place for these discussions.
For example, posting updated ships or planets would potentially be long and
unweidly in this format. I personally don't think Teos is more than a few weeks
or a month away from a potential winner. Once cartel hostilities break out we
will have a winner fairly quickly.

Suggestions on where we can discuss, collaborate, share files?

Fixed Longstanding Bug With Oracle Weather Forecast

I've noticed as well as other users the odd inaccuracy of the weather forecast
ability the Oracle provides. I thought it was due to inaccuracy of the weather
forecast data, but it was due to the wrong latitude always being provided to
the API call. This is fixed now, so you should see accurate weather forecast
information now :)

My first OS was DOS on an 8088 and used that for a few years. The computer was
then upgraded to a 386 with more ram and a larger HDD, still using DOS. I
fondly remember going to the store and buying a box copy of Windows 3.1.

That OS is my favorite of all time. I spent time recently trying to spin up a
DOSbox image of Windows 3.1 with Qmodem (for Windows). The software installed
fine, but it wouldn't run. I'm thinking this install of Qmodem is actually for
Windows 95... oh well.

I did, however, get Telix for Windows installed and running on 3.1. Sadly, it
doesn't handle ANSI escape sequences it doesn't recognize properly. So, I can't
really use it for BBSing. It's fun software, though.

Great memories of my childhood flood back when I spin up Windows 3.1 in DOSbox,
though.

Windows XP is a close 2nd, though. It's solid, works great and doesn't have all
of the unnecessary bells and whistles of today's Windows. The BBS ran for a
while on XP and it ran great. The BBS only moved to Windows 10 out of necessity
with being able to install and use NodeJS.

My favourite(I am a Canuck) was a toss up from DOS 5.x and Windows 3.11 on my
386 sx 33 which I ended up with a 486 dx2-66. I use to BBS, Game *I rather the

Probably a toss up between GEM on the old Atari ST or MacOS (classic 7/8 rather
than OSX), that having been said you can't really beat DOS. The youth of today
could probably work their way around GEM or an old MacOS but I'm not sure how
they'd fair on DOS :D

I realize this is probably a cliche answer , but, Windows XP.

My first OS was my dad's Windows 98, but a dell laptop with windows XP was the

but to me my most favrouite OS has to be hands down windows xp, i used it when
i was young and i still use it via VM to use things like windows movie maker.

It's mostly a comparison of cargo, fighter, shield, and photon torpedo
capacities along with combat odds and jump reactor charges. Some ships don't
really have a strong point.

I have a redesigned ship stats and a few game settings changes. I don't have
anything for planets yet. But I can recommend a few small changes for this run.

We can discuss more widescale changes. But these settings will at least make
losing a fight not completely crippling.

Bank Limit: 20mil

Increase Utopia Price
WeaponWorld: 50000000 (50 mil)

Personally I'd greatly reduce fighter/shield costs but that might be more
settings changes than the sysop wants to do this go round.

Got it. I've increased the bank limit and increased utopia price at weapon
world to 500% (previously 100%). The fighters and shield prices aren't
outrageous, so I didn't mess with the prices on those.

Coping With Loss

my dad passed away a few weeks ago (actually a month ago at this point) and i
have been making nonsensical art to cope with my sadness. what is your coping
mechanism for lost loved ones?

That's a terrible place to be in, but one we all go through. I lost my mom
relatively recently, and my dad is well in his mid-70s, so that's also a
thought. Family being together was a huge part of us all getting through it
(she was one of four sisters.) A good mutual support system is the best answer,
in my experience. Lacking that, just... Don't be afraid to lose it and let it
all out for a bit. It sucks and it hurts, but it's far better to let it out and
get it out of the system. Think of it as a cleansing or purge.

I can't help you feel better, but I understand and feel for your situation, and
absolutely wish you the best in getting through an extremely difficult time.

I'm sorry for your loss--I know it is part of life, but that doesn't make it
hurt any less.

I had a very close friend who passed away some years ago, suddenly and
unexpectedly. In the end, talking about them, the feeling of loss, and just
finding the words to artculate the feelings was what helped the most. Hopefully
you can find a way to honor his memory while healing your own soul.

So sorry for your loss, it takes time, but you will heal.

My loss was a long time friend dyingfrom a severe run of cancer, he'd get
better, then drop, back and forth. To see a school chum witheraway from the
cancer. The worst part about it, is he had no family left, a cousin who died
shortly after he did.
To cope, I remember key points of our friendship, he introduced me to anime, we
had the same tastes, mecha etc. Music was big, Industrial, Techno, Comics and
playifully giving his mom a hard time.
Again our condolences.
Sorry about any spelling mistakes.

Usurper Fixed (again)

Ocassionally, Usurper stops working and won't load. Thankfully, someone let me
know that it wasn't working. When this happens, the only way to fix it is to
completely reboot the server. Usurper is working again. Sorry for the
trouble... these old games aren't the most stable.

Planets Teos Tutorial

Planets: The Exploration of Space is a game of trading, combat and conquering
the universe. But it can be a bit daunting on its surface. Here's a tutorial
for anyone who want to get started. We are treating this run of the game as a
Tutorial run, and are playing more friendly than the games requires.

==Beginning==
When you first start you are focused on building up cash. This is needed to
upgrade your ship, move into better ships and eventually afford attacks on
planets or other players. Every ship has a Flight Path. You can move to the
next planet on your Flight Path for one reactor unit. The Flight Path is one
planet for the base number of reactor units. If you upgrade reactor units, it
give you more jumps, but doesn't give more planets on your Flight Path.
Upgrading reactor units and Big Cargo Spaces increase how much trading and
money you can make. And move into better ships as you can afford them.

*ALWAYS END YOUR DAY BY CLOAKING, SEE DEVICE OF CLOAKING BELOW*

==Trading==
The key is to buy cheap and sell for higher. When you are trading, you can see
the prices for the next planet on your flight path. You want something that is
at least 3k more at the next planet. If not, you can instead type in your own
destination. This will skip the next two planets on your flight path, but it
can be better than having no good trades. Buy one of these at a reasonable
price and jump to the corresponding planet. Its usually good for a 6k-8k
profit.
Medical Units > Homeworld
Heating Units > Hothor
Novelty Packs > Tribonia
Ground Weapons > Tribonia
Plastic Trinkets > Baboria

==Ships==
Several plants will let you buy ship upgrades like Reactor Units, Big Cargo
Spaces, Shields and Fighters. Only Earth and Norhaven sell new ships, to
upgrade to a better model. Its good to keep 350k in a bank so if you are killed
you can upgrade into a Maxiport. The better ships requires you to join the
Alliance or Maraken to purchase. In general the Alliance has better ships,
though we'd like to reblanace them at some point. If you are a member of the
Alliance or Maraken, the enemy won't let you land. But you can cloak to skip
the checkpoint and land anyways.

==Combat==
You will encounter lots of ships while playing the game, some friendly some
not. Fighters and shields are you best friends. Though you can also load
Torpedos Bays when you have spare cash. And when you have more powerful ships
you can conquer planets. A ship has a combat rating. This is how effective your
fighters are at killing enemy fighters.So a 1.1 combat rating means 100
fighters will kill 110 enemy fighters.

==Special Items==
Device of Cloaking - Let's you cloak on the level you select. Its good to buy
one at some point of your trading day. That way you can cloak even if you end
your day on a planet that doesn't sell them.

Anti-Cloak Scanner - Fairly Pricey. It lets you scan a single

Just to add to this: When trading you always suffer a 10% penalty. So If you
buy at 100% you will only get 90% back if you sell it again at a planet that
advertises a 100% price (even if it is a different planet.) This isn't an
advertised feature and I think it can vary between different BBSes. So if you
find yourself earning a little less than you expected, that is why.

==Special Items==
Anti-Cloak Scanners- Fairly pricey about 90k-100k each. Lets you scan a single
Cloaking channel. So it takes multiple to find someone on a planet. If you see
that your Scanners have Interference that means someone is cloaked.

Eden Warp Unit- Purchased from Eden for 25k each. They allow you to instantly
jump to any planet, without using any Reactor Units or skipping any planets on
your Flight Path

Onboard Printing Kit- For 100k each, they can print propaganda that convinces
the people on a planet to destroy some of the fighters protecting it. The more
population, the more fighters they destroy.

Utopia Planetary Defense- These are basically a giant laser (or something),
that fire from a planet when its attacked. Can buy one from WeaponWorld for
5mil but they take a long while to charge when they are installed or after
firing.

Zone Atomic Bomb- Giant bomb to drop on a planet. But they cannot be purchased,
only found randomly.

==Agreements==
We have setup a Trading cartel called Independent Traders. If you join you can
request to be allied with other cartels, so you can visit planets when their
beacons are turned off. Lets you trade unrestricted. But the agreement is you
will not attack planets while a member. IF you want to conquer a planet, leave
the cartel first, or join a different one. The Independent Traders password is
blank.

Is there any guide floating around about how to play this game? I gave it a
shot last night and it seems fun but I could barely understand what I was
supposed to do besides trade and be cool to baddies trying to block my way to
the next planet!

There is a basic overview at planetsteos.20m.com/home.html but the basic loop
is to make trades, earn credits, upgrade your ship, and try to conquer planets.
It's most fun when you have some friends (and rivals!) in game. Form a cartel
to strengthen your hand, but also beware the possiblility of betrayal from
cartel members!

==Combat==
You will encounter lots of ships while playing the game, some friendly some
not. Fighters and shields are you best friends. Though you can also load
Torpedos Bays when you have spare cash. And when you have more powerful ships
you can conquer planets. A ship has a combat rating. This is how effective your
fighters are at killing enemy fighters.So a 1.1 combat rating means 100
fighters will kill 110 enemy fighters.

Time For An Exitilus Reset?

I think this round of Exitilus has run its course. My character glitched out a
long time ago to where there were two to three clones of him out there that
were all feeding their daily income and xp to me. More recently something
happened that apparently gave me unlimited high xp, which made it so I could
max out all stats and become undefeatable (I'm able to defeat a lvl 800 player
with my lvl 600, for example).

Sidebar unrelated to the glitching: I don't get the whole Megabozz quest. Even
completely maxed out (30k in every stat and with the maximum weapons and armor)
there's no way possible to get past even the first day (out of seven) of the
quest.

Anyway... how do my fellow Exitilus players feel about wiping the game?

Lord Tournament Inn

This is a complaint! Every Day someone broke in my room in Lord Tournaments
Inn. The Barkeeper is unable to help and just offers my some kind of "Drinks"
to take my last diamonds. This all started when they invented this damn
electronic locks, so these individuals are some kind of hackers.

I'll leave a bad comment on trip advisor! 0 stars!

But the nature is great! Won't recommend camping there.

I'm suspicious of the bartender. I was having a drink when I noticed a shady
exchange between the bartender and a cloaked adventurer. I saw the adventurer
hand the bartender a sum of gold much higher than the cost of a room at the
Inn. The bartender handed him a key and the adventurer quickly departed
upstairs. Could this be bribery?

I was a teenager in the 90's and learned about BBSes then before the Internet
became available. I believe my friend showed me a BBS for the first time from
his home. It was very exciting to be able to connect to another system and post
a message, chat, play games and download files.

I discovered them WAAAY after their heyday in the 80s and early 90s, something
like a year ago.
I don't know how or why I got interested in them. Probably was googling a way
to browse the internet on older machines and discovered the concept of BBSs. I
knew about them for a few years by then, but I somehow couldn't fathom that
they are still in active use or accessible by almost any computer ever made,
even an HP 48G pocket calculator. This accessibility really made me interested
in BBS's and without BBS's I wouldn't know what to do with some of my machines
now, they give them somewhat a reason to exist in this day and age of
communication.
Though this journey took a few weeks or even months, since I had no previous
knowledge about them and it was daunting to learn all this new stuff. Telnet,
SSH, terminal programs, how datatransmission with Z or Y modems works, how
ASCII code works, transmitting text data via serial, ...
It's fun to think now how modern web browsers are just more sophisticated
terminals. I would've never made that connection if it weren't for BBSs!

I was in my mid 20s in the early 90's when modems and ISPs became a thing for
home hobbyists. The international aspects were especially appealing, and I
loved reading the newsgroups that were available, plus playing some doors and
tying up my home phone line for 4-5 hours at a time, which drove my wife crazy
since she couldn't get through to me from her work, and no-one had mobile
phones then. BBSs just seemed like a cool way to make new penfriends at a time
when I couldn't afford to travel. I still keep in touch with someone I met in
America in the early 90s via a BBS sports newsgroup.

Knew about them from dear friend, who set me upp in the late 80s/early 90's
with a C=64and a 1200 baud modem andsurfed the local BBS's. Loved that machine
, even to this day.
This BBS, I just came across it, while looking for infoon old Door GamesI loved

I first learned about bulletin boards back in the early '90s at school during
recess. I joined a computer club and folks there were talking about BBS. I
started with a 1200 baud modem and used to stay up all night connecting to as
many as I could find.

My dad got me an IBM PC Jr in the early-mid 80s, had a 300 baud modem on it. Having watched Wargames, I kind of knew what a modem
was and somehow found a bbs list. Called my first board I still remember to this day, The Hidden Canyon. The sound of the modem
connecting, and the knowing that what was on my screen was from another computer had me hooked.

Syncterm And Ripscrip Not Working?

I'm using Syncterm 1.6 on Linux and followed the instructions on the website to
enable RIP support (v1), but I get nothing when trying to login or in LORD.

Is there another trick to it?

Hmm, that's strange. It works for me, though I'm using Windows. It might not
hurt to reach out to the author, Deuce, and see if he has any recommendations.
Might be a Linux quirk, might not be.

LORD Tournament has no IGMs and settings tuned for fair play and offers prizes
to the one who can win the tournament!

Extreme LORD has many IGMs and less restrictive settings for more free and
rapid play, such as advancing stats, gold and levels much more quickly than the
tournament. Also, the tournament is 3 heroic deeds (dragon kills). Extreme is
20, I believe.

IGMs (In Game Modules) are kind of mini games inside of LORD. In Extreme LORD,
from the main menu, select 'O' for Other Places to see a list of IGMs. They are
known for boosting stats and provide some spice a variety to LORD. Check them
