What Is Your Favrouite Metal Band

i recently got into metal music i listen to things like metallica and
dissection (yes i listen to some degree of black metal despite how somber they
sound but that's beside the point) and a little twisted sister (does that count
as metal idk) what do you guys listen in terms of metal music?

Metal is an endlessly deep adventure - enjoy the journey! Usually around this
spooky time of year, I'll listen to Mercyful Fate and King Diamond; but
recently I've been getting more into black metal bands like Mayhem and
Darkthrone. Slayer will always reign supreme when it comes to thrash. I just
bought a ticket to see Iron Maiden next year and Megadeth and Anthrax are
opening!! so incresibly stoked for that show!

Agree with Plague almost word for word. HA, Merciful Fate and King Diamond,
bands I haven't thought of in a long time. (Life has been busy lately.)

My overall vote reluctantly goes to Metalica, for the volume of killer songs.
Agree to those who shouted out DIO! And I wholeheartedly agree!! But, like all
the other bands mentioned (Anthrax, MD, JP) just don't have as many KILLER
songs. Great songs sure, but not as many in a single band.

That's just my opinion and maybe because I didn't spend enough time with entire
albums from the above bands, whereas I wore out a few Metalica albums.

Metalica (Lars) really pisses me off sometimes though. I didn't care for the
Black album in particular but that's another conversation.

My first OS was DOS on an 8088 and used that for a few years. The computer was
then upgraded to a 386 with more ram and a larger HDD, still using DOS. I
fondly remember going to the store and buying a box copy of Windows 3.1.

That OS is my favorite of all time. I spent time recently trying to spin up a
DOSbox image of Windows 3.1 with Qmodem (for Windows). The software installed
fine, but it wouldn't run. I'm thinking this install of Qmodem is actually for
Windows 95... oh well.

I did, however, get Telix for Windows installed and running on 3.1. Sadly, it
doesn't handle ANSI escape sequences it doesn't recognize properly. So, I can't
really use it for BBSing. It's fun software, though.

Great memories of my childhood flood back when I spin up Windows 3.1 in DOSbox,
though.

Windows XP is a close 2nd, though. It's solid, works great and doesn't have all
of the unnecessary bells and whistles of today's Windows. The BBS ran for a
while on XP and it ran great. The BBS only moved to Windows 10 out of necessity
with being able to install and use NodeJS.

completely bewildered by - the whole experience. It takes me months or years
to reach proficiency, but feels so good when I get there.

Use a Mac now, have loved MacOS since 98 but started on Win 3.11, love that OS,
had so much fun on the BBS either on Win 3.11 or 95. Good old days.

My favourite(I am a Canuck) was a toss up from DOS 5.x and Windows 3.11 on my
386 sx 33 which I ended up with a 486 dx2-66. I use to BBS, Game *I rather the
olld school floopy games).Life was so much easier then.

Probably a toss up between GEM on the old Atari ST or MacOS (classic 7/8 rather
than OSX), that having been said you can't really beat DOS. The youth of today
could probably work their way around GEM or an old MacOS but I'm not sure how
they'd fair on DOS :D

My first OS was my dad's Windows 98, but a dell laptop with windows XP was the
first computer that was my own. did a lot of fooling around with windows movie

Time For An Exitilus Reset?

I think this round of Exitilus has run its course. My character glitched out a
long time ago to where there were two to three clones of him out there that
were all feeding their daily income and xp to me. More recently something
happened that apparently gave me unlimited high xp, which made it so I could
max out all stats and become undefeatable (I'm able to defeat a lvl 800 player
with my lvl 600, for example).

Sidebar unrelated to the glitching: I don't get the whole Megabozz quest. Even
completely maxed out (30k in every stat and with the maximum weapons and armor)
there's no way possible to get past even the first day (out of seven) of the
quest.

Anyway... how do my fellow Exitilus players feel about wiping the game?

Usurper Fixed (again)

Ocassionally, Usurper stops working and won't load. Thankfully, someone let me
know that it wasn't working. When this happens, the only way to fix it is to
completely reboot the server. Usurper is working again. Sorry for the
trouble... these old games aren't the most stable.

Lord Tournament Inn

This is a complaint! Every Day someone broke in my room in Lord Tournaments
Inn. The Barkeeper is unable to help and just offers my some kind of "Drinks"
to take my last diamonds. This all started when they invented this damn
electronic locks, so these individuals are some kind of hackers.

I'll leave a bad comment on trip advisor! 0 stars!

But the nature is great! Won't recommend camping there.

I'm suspicious of the bartender. I was having a drink when I noticed a shady
exchange between the bartender and a cloaked adventurer. I saw the adventurer
hand the bartender a sum of gold much higher than the cost of a room at the
Inn. The bartender handed him a key and the adventurer quickly departed

I was a teenager in the 90's and learned about BBSes then before the Internet
became available. I believe my friend showed me a BBS for the first time from
his home. It was very exciting to be able to connect to another system and post
a message, chat, play games and download files.

I discovered them WAAAY after their heyday in the 80s and early 90s, something
like a year ago.
I don't know how or why I got interested in them. Probably was googling a way
to browse the internet on older machines and discovered the concept of BBSs. I
knew about them for a few years by then, but I somehow couldn't fathom that
they are still in active use or accessible by almost any computer ever made,
even an HP 48G pocket calculator. This accessibility really made me interested
in BBS's and without BBS's I wouldn't know what to do with some of my machines
now, they give them somewhat a reason to exist in this day and age of
communication.
Though this journey took a few weeks or even months, since I had no previous
knowledge about them and it was daunting to learn all this new stuff. Telnet,
SSH, terminal programs, how datatransmission with Z or Y modems works, how
ASCII code works, transmitting text data via serial, ...
It's fun to think now how modern web browsers are just more sophisticated
terminals. I would've never made that connection if it weren't for BBSs!

I was in my mid 20s in the early 90's when modems and ISPs became a thing for
home hobbyists. The international aspects were especially appealing, and I
loved reading the newsgroups that were available, plus playing some doors and
tying up my home phone line for 4-5 hours at a time, which drove my wife crazy
since she couldn't get through to me from her work, and no-one had mobile
phones then. BBSs just seemed like a cool way to make new penfriends at a time
when I couldn't afford to travel. I still keep in touch with someone I met in
America in the early 90s via a BBS sports newsgroup.

Knew about them from dear friend, who set me upp in the late 80s/early 90's
with a C=64and a 1200 baud modem andsurfed the local BBS's. Loved that machine
, even to this day.

I first learned about bulletin boards back in the early '90s at school during
recess. I joined a computer club and folks there were talking about BBS. I
started with a 1200 baud modem and used to stay up all night connecting to as
many as I could find.

My dad got me an IBM PC Jr in the early-mid 80s, had a 300 baud modem on it. Having watched Wargames, I kind of knew what a modem
was and somehow found a bbs list. Called my first board I still remember to this day, The Hidden Canyon. The sound of the modem
connecting, and the knowing that what was on my screen was from another computer had me hooked.

Syncterm And Ripscrip Not Working?

I'm using Syncterm 1.6 on Linux and followed the instructions on the website to
enable RIP support (v1), but I get nothing when trying to login or in LORD.

Hmm, that's strange. It works for me, though I'm using Windows. It might not

LORD Tournament has no IGMs and settings tuned for fair play and offers prizes
to the one who can win the tournament!

Extreme LORD has many IGMs and less restrictive settings for more free and
rapid play, such as advancing stats, gold and levels much more quickly than the
tournament. Also, the tournament is 3 heroic deeds (dragon kills). Extreme is
20, I believe.

IGMs (In Game Modules) are kind of mini games inside of LORD. In Extreme LORD,
from the main menu, select 'O' for Other Places to see a list of IGMs. They are
known for boosting stats and provide some spice a variety to LORD. Check them

Lord In Syncterm With Rip Graphics

Hi,

When I start LORD using SyncTERM with RIP enabled, it says I need to download
an icon pack first. But pressing the download button doesn't work.

I found a LORDICON.ZIP file on the internet, and put it under .syncterm/icons
but I still got the same error when starting the game.

Has anyone managed to make this work?

It's awesome you're checking out the BBS in RIP! I recommend getting in contact
with the author of Syncterm to find out where to put the RIP icons. It's not an
intuitive location at all... something like
C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\SyncTERM\???

An alternative you could consider is using a ready packed RIPterm setup instead
that uses DOSbox. It comes with the LORD icons, so LORD RIP will

I use Linux and my Syncterm looks for the rip graphics under:

~/.cache/syncterm/Serion/RIP/

Something Happened In Lord(extreme) To Me

Hi, Something weird has hapopened to my Character (Graehaus), I went and did
Other Places with The Changling. A Debug screen showed up, and I tried to get
out of it, And I messed up my character. Not to cheat, just to get out of it,
in fear of screwing the whole thing up. My character has a Negative hitpoints.
I can not play the game. A shame I had a couple 100 million build up in the
Bank. I just want to get back to play.

Hey Graehaus, this is one of the 'Bad Things' that can happen when you
encounter the Changeling in the forest. If your Hit Points are still negative,
you can fix them by visiting the Counselling Services in 'Lord Life'. I have

Just tried Lord Life and it freezes up nd freeze til I disconnect. Might be a conection issue. I use Netrunner and the website

That's great news! I'm sorry to everyone that made progress in Lord Life as
that progress has been wiped out. These old 16 bit programs have issues from
time to time. Sometimes, the only way to fix them is to restore from backup and
start clean.

Lord Tournament Reset! Good Luck Everyone!

As previously mentioned, the LORD Tournament game was accidentally reset a day
earlier. It has now been reset again when it was supposed to on the 4th. I hope
this isn't confusing to anyone. Good luck to everyone in the Tournament!

Happy Thanksgiving 2024!

Just wanted to take a moment and wish everyone on here in the US a Happy
Thanksgiving if you're celebrating and eating turkey today! Otherwise Happy
Thursday to everyone else worldwide and a Happy Belated Thanksgiving to our
Canadian Friends (I know it was last month, as several of my Twitch teammates
are in Canada).

Anyone Into Retro Gaming Besides Door Games?

Hey ya'll! Just trying to ignite some conversation, and would love to see if
theres anyone into retro gaming in general?

I definitely have a soft spot for NES/SNES/Gameboy games and retro consoles and
retro import consoles and when I get a chance to stream to twitch, a lot of it
is SNES games. :)

Also totally amazed that people out there in the interwebs are still making
games for these old systems to this day. I plan on checking out this game on
Steam that was also made for the Gameboy called Marron's Day. It looks pretty
cute and the dev definitely put a lot of love into it, especially with making
the Gameboy version and it being able to work on a Super Gameboy/Super Gameboy
2. :)

I have a sizeable collection of N64, SNES, and Gameboy games, even a few NES
games, and the hardware to run them on. The thing I'm most proud of in my
collection is the atomic purple game boy color, that was and still is a thing
of beauty.

Of course, they all get taken out and played on a regular basis, becuase games
were meant to be PLAYED, not to sit on a shelf and look pretty.

Some of it was hand-me-downs from my older sister (My family had fallen on hard
times when I was a kid) and the rest of it I started collecting when I was
older.

I had a nintendo for a little while as a kid. We didn't own many games, but we
certainly had Mario. Fast forward to the early 2000's, there's the original
Xbox. An acquiantance of mine was able to mod the Xbox with custom firmware and
load emulators for NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, N64, etc.

During college and for years afterwards, I enjoyed playing all of these old
games on the Xbox. It worked very well, except for N64. The Xbox has been
collecting dust for years now. It probably still works :)

There were the classic DOS games I came back to frequently like Doom, Quake,
Wolfenstein, Raptor: Call of the Shadows, etc. and set up an old laptop just
for playing these DOS games.

My most recent classic play has been Raptor: Call of the Shadows. It's
available on GoG. Back in the day, I was only able to play the shareware
version. Now, it's pretty low cost to pick up the full title. I purchased it
years ago on GoG. A few months ago, I ran through the entire campaign set on
Elite difficulty :)

I enjoy 8/16 bit gaming, many NES and SNES, a little Genesis ( we were a
Nintendo home), I go backto the Atari 2600 as well, I loved having a C64 system
as well.

We were not allowed to have Nintendo, but my dad was in tech so we had a 386
and a 28.8k dialup back in '92. So I grew up on Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of
Destiny, all the Commander Keen games, Doom, Doom 2, and of course LORD. Then
we got a Pentium and that unlocked Hexen, Quake, Quake 2, Duke Nukem 3D, etc.
Lots of other weird games in between that I can remember. Weirdly I've never
really gone back to any of these titles in my adulthood, except LORD of course.
I also played a ton of SNES games on emulators back in the early 2000s, but
never really since.

I'm gonna get back into playing them just so I can show my 3 year old when the
time comes. Thinking I'll start her off with Mario Brothers on the NE

Bigtime retro game fan here. I like to split my gaming time and attention
between newer games and retro ones. Currently on a kick of playing Dead Space 1
and comparing the remake to the original. It's a mixed bag. I think I overall
like the look of the original DS1 better than the remake but there's no doubt
that the new game is technically accomplished and faithful to the original. And
yet the remake gives Isaac full voice lines instead of being a silent
protagonist, and that's a huge improvement.

I'm a little sheepish to define the 2008 Dead Space game as "retro." I know
that's not quite what we mean here. Other retro plays for me this year include
Metal Gear Solid (PS1), The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (GBC), Super
Metroid (SNES), Silent Hill 2 (PS2), Sonic Adventure (DC), Ico (PS2), Quake II
(PC), Clock Tower 3 (PS2), Legaia 2: Duel Saga (PS2), and Crash Bandicoot (PS1)
That list is ordered by how much I liked each one, from most to least.

Booch really got me with that mention of Raptor: Call of the Shadows. That was
such a great shareware game. Played it when I was a kid and I just remember how
much I was able to get locked into it and fall into a groove. You'd think I'd
have become a big fan of shoot-'em-ups but I never really did.

Good topic, nice to rant on and check in with people on it.

Extreme Lord Reset! Congratulations, Nevarro!

Extreme LORD has been won! That's a lot of dead dragons!

The game has now been reset and a fresh brood of red dragons are already
wreaking havoc on the town.

This version of LORD has some fun IGMs that can help quite a bit with stat
boosts and leveling quickly.
